Sports training for kids

I get a lot of questions from parents asking about training for their kids. They've been spending countless dollars on pitching, hitting, volleyball, lacrosse, SAQ camps and not seeing the results. I always tell them. Your spending your money in the wrong place. Unless that athlete has a good foundation, i.e.. joint mobility, muscle flexibility and core strength, you are not going to see the gains that you are chasing with your hard earned dollars. If an athlete has tight hips he or she will not get the maximum benefit of learning how to drive off the mound towards the plate with pitching lessons, or becoming linearly faster because they can't get the knee up high enough to produce maximal force from SAQ training. A good Coach will tell you this is important!

Remember you can't build a house on a weak foundation and expect it to survive!

There will be more to follow on this topic!

Another Tough Mudder !

On November 3 2013 Another group from The  Factory braved the 12 mile 28 obstacle Tough Mudder in Central Florida. We had a small group compared to last year and the year before. I had to sit this one out because of knee surgery, but I was there in spirit! Here are some pics for the event. the Participants were Wade Diekman, Louise Crocitto, Lorrie Lindsey and Liz Stanley Synder.

Congrats goes out to those that participated. Lets do it again in 2014!

So it's done. Tampa tough mudder complete!

A group of 16 hearty souls braved the Artic Enema, walked the plank, got tazed, but they all finished. We earned the orange head band and that cold beer. One beer never tasted sooooo good. As the most interesting man in the world said " if you have to sign a waiver, it must be worth doing!" Stay hunugry my friends!

T-minus two months and counting!

Good morning bloggers, Yes It's been a while and I need to keep up with you more often! But here I am. We are well within two months til the Tough Mudder Tampa and workouts have been going great, even if the weather has been trying to put a damper on our outdoor activities.

We have a smaller group this year, only 19 instead of the 24 last year. That doesn't mean we're any less enthusiastic about the race, we have a good mix of veterans and newbies that should make for a good mix.

The race was moved to Sarasota this year which is a little closer, but still requires an overnight stay.

The factory has been rolling in its 3rd year going into it's 4th. We've been discovered by parents looking to give their kids an edge when participating in sports. We train kids from age 12 and up. Any younger than 12 is really a waste for the kid. They need to be having fun and learning fundamentals instead of looking at trying to make them faster. They're are just growing into their bodies, give them time.

Morning boot camp is going great! with the holiday season coming up. It's time to get yourself ready for that holiday cocktail dress. or tuxedo.

Yoga is a success! small group of no more than 12.  Come try a class for free, first one is on us.

Finally, a welcome to Ms Gina Ostarly the newest member to our team. She's fitting in well with our group and we love having her here!

Ok, I'm going to promise to get on here more often. Once a week up to the Mudder. Let you know what our workout was for that day. Have a great weekend!

SUPER SPARTAN IS DONE!

Had a blast at the Super Spartan on Feb 25. I didn't train quite as hard for this as I did the Mudder. And it showed. My last 2 miles were filled with leg cramps. But  I only had to do one set of 30 burpees. My goal was to do none. Had I not slipped on the muddy rope I would have accomplished that feat. But still it was a great time with a great group of my members. Looking forward to the next adventure! For me that will be the Masters Basketball Association tournament in May a 50+ event. I have to get in basketball shape for that!.

Stay tuned!

Two weeks from the Spartan

Two weeks until the Super Spartan in Miami. Looking forward to another challenging race. Something to test your mental as well as physical grit.  I've already created a team for the 2012 Tough Mudder in Florida. But thats not til December. What will be my next test?

At 51 when everyone says slow down I still want to go! Is that wrong? Am I a freak? or is it my generation that can't slow down long enough to tie it's shoelaces.

My goals this year is to be the oldest guy to spend a week at Athletes Performance Institute with Mark Verstegen and the play in the Masters Basketball Association Tournament in Coral Springs in May.

I love the challenge and as long as I can do it I will!
